The All Progressives Congress has officially affirmed the outcome of its Anambra State governorship primary election, endorsing the selection of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu as the party’s flagbearer for the November 8, 2025, gubernatorial poll.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, disclosed this in a statement issued after the National Working Committee meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja.
He described the primary as “fair, credible, and transparent.”
Ukachukwu had emerged winner of the primary held over the weekend, polling 1,455 votes to defeat his closest rival, Valentine Ozigbo, who secured 67 votes.
Other contenders, Johnbosco Onunkwo and Edozie Madu, polled 26 and 8 votes respectively. The process also recorded 26 invalid votes.
The APC’s Electoral Committee Chairman and Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, had earlier announced Ukachukwu’s victory.
However, Valentine Ozigbo, a recent defector from the Labour Party, has challenged the process, labeling the primary a “fraud and charade” in a statement on Tuesday. He has since petitioned the party’s Appeals Committee.
Despite the protest, the party leadership has moved forward, presenting Ukachukwu with a certificate of return.
“The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, considered and approved the report of the Party’s Anambra State Governorship Primary Election,” the statement read.

“The Primary Election Committee, under the chairmanship of Governor Bassey Otu, declared Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu winner of the election with 1,455 votes.”
At the NWC meeting, APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, commended the committee for conducting a transparent process and urged all aspirants to close ranks in preparation for the general election.
“Presenting the APC Certificate of Return to Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, Dr. Ganduje charged all stakeholders, particularly the other aspirants and their supporters, to work for the Party’s victory in the November 8, 2025, Anambra State gubernatorial election,” the statement added.
Speaking after receiving the certificate, Ukachukwu expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, stating that the APC will not back Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
“If APGA is sellable without the centre, why are they relying on the centre? This is the first time Soludo is bringing himself for election as a person. We will determine whether he is popular or not. Tinubu is a party man. He can’t fall and won’t fall. Why will Tinubu support him? Why go to beg when you can have it?”
He also praised the President for upholding democratic values, saying: “Let me thank Tinubu for upholding the democratic principles of free, fair process. He has shown it in Anambra State; he has spoken very loudly and we heard him clearly.
“I also want to thank the National Chairman and his Working Committee for their support and for standing firm in Anambra.”
Ukachukwu concluded by extending an olive branch to his fellow aspirants, calling on them to rally behind him for the party’s success at the polls.
