Big news for Chicago Stars FC fans! Canadian international and midfield maestro, Julia Grosso, has just re-signed with the team, securing her place with the Stars through the 2028 season. Originally joining the Chicago Stars in July 2024, Grosso's initial contract was set to expire in 2026. This new agreement adds an impressive two more seasons to her tenure, a testament to her value to the team.
Remember, Grosso was already named to the Canadian roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics when she first signed with Chicago. She joined the Stars following Canada’s participation in that tournament. Her debut for the Stars was a 90-minute performance against Racing Louisville FC on August 24, 2024, where she showcased her skills with a remarkable 90.91% passing accuracy. In the 2024 regular season, Grosso recorded 10 starts and appearances, boasting a team-high 88.82% passing accuracy, took 3 shots, and created four chances.
But here's where it gets exciting: Grosso is truly blossoming in her first full National Women’s Soccer League season. She scored her first NWSL goal on May 10, showcasing her dazzling footwork. She then notched her first NWSL assist in August, followed by a multi-goal contribution match against Orlando on September 7. She assisted a goal and then scored a stunning goal herself, demonstrating her all-around ability. She also assisted the match-tying goal against Utah Royals FC.
This season, Grosso has been a key player for the Stars, finishing with a team-high 25 chances created and 251 passes into the final third. She also had the second-best passing average among Chicago Stars, with 85.06%, in addition to her two goals and three assists in 24 matches played.
And this is the part most people miss: Grosso's international career is also thriving. She's been a key player for Canada in 2025, scoring a goal in the Pinatar Cup draw with China and another in a shutout victory over Argentina. With nine appearances in the CANWNT's international matches this year, she recently earned two starts in European friendlies against Switzerland and the Netherlands.
Looking ahead, in 2026, Grosso and the Chicago Stars will play at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium in Evanston, Illinois.
