A 39-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after police were called to an address on Altrincham Road in Gatley.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a 93-year-old woman was found dead at the property.
The house has been taped off as forensics officers conduct their investigations.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: "Officers were called to an address on Altrincham Road at 9:38am. Sadly, a 93-year-old woman was found deceased in the property.
"Police attended and following initial enquiries at the scene, a 39-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder. She remains in police custody.
"A scene is in place whilst investigators conduct their enquiries."

Incident referred to Independent Office for Police Conduct
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the incident has been referred to the Independant Office for Police Conduct.
A spokesperson for GMP said in a statement: "Due to previous contact with the deceased, we have made a mandatory referral of this incident to the Independent Office of Police Conduct.
The statement added: "Following an initial assessment by GMP’s Professional Standards Directorate, all officers remain fully operational."

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service release statement
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) confirmed they attended the scene to investigate concerns around gas.
A spokesperson for GMFRS said, “At around 10am today (Wednesday, 16th April), firefighters were called to reports of a gas leak on Altrincham Road in Gatley.
“Three fire engines from Cheadle, Whitehill and Stockport fire stations quickly arrived at the scene. Crews used gas monitoring equipment within the property and found no abnormal readings. Checks were also carried out to the neighbouring property as a precautionary measure.
“Crews were at the scene for around an hour.”

Greater Manchester Police make appeal for information
Detective Inspector Adam Hitchen, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “The priority for our investigation is understanding the full circumstances which led to this tragic incident and getting justice for the victim. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family, who are aware and are being supported by specialist officers.
"We recognise that this investigation may cause concern within the local community, but I want to assure the public that this is an isolated incident, with a swift arrest made, and no wider threat.
“You will notice an increased presence in the area today whilst we conduct enquiries, but also across the coming days as the local neighbourhood team look to provide reassurance to those living close by.

A spokesperson for Cadent told the M.E.N.: "I can confirm we attended to ensure everything associated with gas is safe.
