Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for PS was a leading PS game in my opinion. In fact, it was my favorite game at the time of its release back in the year 2002. This is why I was excited to hear that there is a mobile device version. However, the app did not live up to all my expectations as I hoped it would. I explain why in this review.

Graphics / Sound

There is a distinct improvement in the graphics of both the iOS and Android app compared to the original 2002 game. Some of these improvements include improved lighting effects, revamped characters, and high-res textures. However, the game still seems too old compared to most modern games. The game has a soft and calm sound that goes very well with the music in the game which without a doubt improves the quality of the game. 6/10.

Interface and Controls

The interface is not the best. The app is cluttered with buttons, and the performance of the app is not very reliable or consistent. In addition to this, both the Google Android and iOS app are quite tricky to control. This game has a complex full-featured game system that has very many buttons which are quite difficult to control on a touchpad. These controls also interfere with my gaming experience because they are not well-organized. 6/10.

This game has straightforward gameplay. It is a game that takes you down memory lane to the 1980s and tells a story about a man who rose to the top of the criminal pile. You will arrive in Vice City one of the best cities ever created at the time. It is your job to control your character and take over the city as you choose. One thing I did not like about PS version is the fact that you would go on very dull driving sessions every time you lost a mission. I expected the developers of the app to fix this, but it is still an issue in the mobile version.

However, I commend the developers for is the auto-aim system that is very accurate and prevents you from missing your aim. This is great considering that the controls are not really reliable. I also like that the apps have custom soundtrack support and cloud saves. This is something that was not in the PS version, and I appreciate that they added it. It really gives the game a touch of uniqueness and makes it more interesting.

This game does not include any in-app purchases. However, it is not free to download. You have to pay $4.99 for both the Android and the iOS version to use them. 9/10.

Lasting Appeal

Due to the complex nature of the controls, I don’t think you will want to play this game over and over again unless you figure out how to use them. Personally, I gave up after two tries. 4/10.

The Verdict

I played the PS version of this game, and I had a lot of fun playing it. However, I did not have as much fun with the App Store or Google Play app for this game especially due to the complex controls. Therefore, I wouldn’t recommend it. However, if you want to test the game yourself, you can get the latest version on App Store or Google Play Store. Make sure you get the updated version because it has improvements that might make your experience better.
