This antivirus APK download from Cheetah Mobile protects your Android mobile from vulnerabilities brought about by viruses, adware, malware, hacking tools, and other phone problems while leveraging on low space and low power consumption.

The app design is simple yet sleek, and rates at a 9/10 for me. The dominant blue graphics look nice on the app and give it an overall positive feel. There’s a big scan button in the middle of the viewing area. You’ll see issues that have been detected and an option to resolve these issues on one page. On the device, you can see your protection status and the last scan date for both malware, virus, adware and browser hack tools.

I give this a rating of 9/10 for functionality because I’ve probably used more efficient antivirus apps. The app is the lightest possible, with its installation package as small as 1.28 MB. The developers credit the app as ‘having been developed for phones with memories less than 1 GB,’ and this is one of the reasons why unlike other AV programs, this one doesn’t drag your device down. The app is powered by a local CM cloud engine, and fixes local system failures and vulnerabilities, scanning new websites, files, and even your external SD cards.

Being lightweight, the app takes only a portion of the time taken by other AV apps to probe your system. You can schedule scans and check apps in real-time before and after you download them. You’ll also get a ‘safe browser’ which is a private browser, unlike the conventional web protection.

The last update in January 2018 offered a few bug fixes. The app is free to download, and there are no in-app purchases that I came across. This is an app for all Android devices running Android 2.3 or higher. There is no iOS version for the app.

I give the app a 10/10 for simplicity. The app is really to use, and the large scan button is as intuitive as it gets. The options are well-displayed, and you can choose the type of scan that you need.

You can easily schedule a scan either for a day, week or a month. The settings are quite simple to understand. The app takes up very little phone memory and doesn’t slow down your phone.

The Verdict

I’d recommend the Google Play app for CM Security Lite to anyone looking for a really simple AV that affords them a powerful and reliable engine without completely taking over their devices. The Android app is compatible with most Android devices, and the small size means that anyone can comfortably download and use this app. Other than the browsing protection which I think should be more open-ended, this AV for Google Android is not a leader on the market but definitely worth trying.
